Volvo Subject 60
Volvo wanted the atmosphere of an illegal pop-up warehouse rave to appeal to a younger demographic for the launch of the S60 model with a spectacular series of European events to engage and entertain media and influencers resulting in prime time news coverage and social media engagement viewed by over seven million people.
Working with the design agency Line Up, event lighting specialists Fantastic Illuminations designed the lighting for the five launch parties held in London, Paris, Milan, Madrid and Berlin. The venues was post-industrial complexes ranging from train freight depot to a former Post Office sorting office in London.
Commenting on the project, Fantastic Illuminations Lighting Designer Richard Marks says, "Each venue varied so differently resulting in five different party layouts with tight build and take down schedules. We decided from an early stage to use floor mounted lighting equipment. Our bespoke solution was to manufacture our own giant angle-poise light fittings to provide the key lighting for the cars and various scenic elements. LED battens were installed along the base of the set walls provided a deep red glow contrasting the stark white lighting from the angle-poises".
Fantastic Illuminations Project Manager Richard Marks says "The modified angle-poise light fittings were an inspired choice providing a bright, adjustable and dimmable mobile light fitting. Richard has done a fantastic job in delivering a design that not only fulfils the original brief but also provides an elegant and practical solution to the time and venue constraints that were presented to us."
